More Help for Canadian Families

You’ve likely heard about our government’s enhanced benefits for Canadian families. We’re pleased to roll out the expanded Universal Child Care Benefit Monday, July 20th. All families with children will benefit.

-The benefit for each child under 6 will go from $100 per month to $160 per month. That works out to $1,920 per year.

-Children 6 through 17 get $60 per month or $720 per year.

So as you can see, every family with children under 18 qualifies. For more information, head to http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/bnfts/uccb-puge/menu-eng.html

Enabling Accessibility Fund Projects Announced

I was pleased to announce this week that four organizations in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex have had projects approved under our government’s Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF). Since its creation in 2007, this program has funded over 1400 projects across the country. It has improved accessibility for thousands of Canadians, updating playgrounds, installing things like automated door openers and improving washroom accessibility. The work done under this program truly enables individuals with disabilities to participate more fully in our communities. You can read more about our local projects at www.bevshipley.ca

Proud to be Canadian

The winners of my Proud to be Canadian Facebook photo contest were Morgan and Luke from Melbourne whose proud mom, Petra submitted the photo below and I was able to give them their prize this week. We’ve received lots of positive feedback about the contest and how it encourages people to don the red and white to show just how proud they are to call Canada home. Thank you so much to everyone who entered the contest!

Did You Know?

-That in addition to being our Prime Minister, Stephen Harper is the author of a book called “Hockey, A Great Game” and he donates all proceeds to support wounded veterans.

-That Mr. Harper is a “huge” curling fan and prior to becoming PM often scheduled business and leisure trips around the Canadian Championships.

-That Mr. Harper personally approved changes in the government’s second budget bill that scale back and delay benefits to one person: that being the Prime Minister. That change alone will see the Prime Minister lose more than $1 million in retirement benefits.

Until next time,

Bev Shipley, M.P., Lambton-Kent-Middlesex
