Bev Shipley has worked and lived in the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex riding his entire life, just as generations of his family have done since 1819. After graduating from Centralia College of Agriculture Technology, Bev took over the family farm, which he expanded to include cash crops and purebred dairy cattle.
It is in the Township of Middlesex Centre that Bev and Barb, his wife of 42 years, raised three grown children. They are the proud grandparents of nine grandchildren.
Over the years, Bev has demonstrated a strong commitment to his family, community and public service, which all contribute to his strong leadership skills and a thorough understanding of the needs of the constituents he represents.
His commitment to public service is extensive, which included 20 years of dedication to municipal government. Bev served on Middlesex County Council for 16 years, was Warden in 1995, and served the last 7 years as Mayor of Middlesex Centre.
Bev was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex in 2006 and was re-elected by increasing pluralities in 2008 and again in 2011.
Bev’s broad experience in small business and farming has given him an appreciation for the importance of developing national policies which promote global trade and tariff reductions.
To the list of his many responsibilities in Ottawa, Bev was pleased to be named Chair of the Agriculture Committee in October, 2013 and has had past membership on the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology, the Standing Committee on Veteran`s Affairs, the Standing Committee on Transportation, the Infrastructure Standing Committee, the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Public Accounts and the Standing Committee on International Trade.
Bev is also a founding member of the Rural Caucus, a member of the Auto Caucus and the Energy Caucus. Additionally, Bev sits on the Executive of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association and the Association of Parliaments of the Americas, the Canada-China Legislative Association and the Canada-United States Inter-parliamentary Group.
