Seizing the Moment

Two years ago Canadians gave our Conservative Government a mandate to support job creation, keep taxes low and help make our streets and communities safer. We’ve delivered on that mandate. Canada has created approximately one million net new jobs since the depths of the global economic recession, the best job-creation record in the G7. Yet, the job isn’t done. We have more to do. We must seize this moment and build on what Canada has accomplished. In this new session of Parliament, we will build on our record, supporting economic growth and jobs for Canadians. We will take new steps to support and protect Canadian families. We will always put Canada first!

  • We will spend responsibly and balance the budget in 2015 and to back it up we will make balancing the budget the law.
  •  We will continue to reform the Temporary Foreign Workers program to ensure that Canadians always have the first chance at available jobs.
  • We have just concluded negotiations on a comprehensive trade agreement with the European Union with the potential to create tens of thousands of new jobs. And we’ll continue to expand trade, opening new markets in Asia and the Americas.
  •  We will continue to support your family and increase the choices you make as a consumer.
  •  We will introduce more competition which will lower the costs of your cell phone bill. And you should not have to pay for television channels you don’t watch.
  • We will require providers to allow you to pick and pay for only the channels you want.
  • If you are tired of paying $20 for a book that sells for $12 in the U.S., we will work to combat geographic price discrimination.
  •  We will work to introduce a comprehensive Victims Bill of Rights and we will also introduce legislation to combat cyberbullying to protect our children from predators.
