Modernizing Internal Trade in Canada

It may come as a surprise that, while you can easily cross from one province or territory to another, some goods – like beer and wine –can’t always do the same. Have you ever taken a trip to a different province, found a product that you love and then later discovered that it’s not available back home? Our government is taking steps to eliminate domestic regulation that leads to increased and unnecessary costs for our businesses, limiting growth and job creation. I’ve posted a copy of our plan “One Canada: One National Economy,” on my website, www.bevshipley.ca if you’d like to have a look.

Our Strong Record of Supporting Veterans

I am hoping you will take a moment to discover a little more about our government’s strong record of supporting veterans. This chart shows a much more accurate picture of the situation than what you’ll read or hear from much of the mainstream media.

Support for Injured Veterans

Enabling Accessibility

The call for proposals for the Enabling Accessibility Fund has begun with applications being accepted until October 1st for workplace accessibility. The Enabling Accessibility Fund is a federal program that supports capital costs of construction and renovations related to improving physical accessibility and safety for people with disabilities. More than 1,000 projects have been approved since 2007. You can find out more at www.esdc.gc.ca/eng/disability/eaf/index.shtml

Fall- What a Wonderful Time of the Year

It’s not only harvest season, but it’s back to school time! Whether it’s your child’s first day of JK or they’re entering their final year at University, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Lambton-Kent-Middlesex students a safe and productive school year. It’s also a good time to remind drivers that those school buses will soon be back out on the roads and to be mindful of students walking and riding to school. You can also find out a wealth of information about our government’s programs to help finance your child’s post-secondary education at www.canlearn.ca/eng/index.shtml

Did You Know?

-Since 2006, our federal government has cut taxes for an average family of four by $3,400, leaving more of your hard-earned money in your pocket to spend whatever way you see fit.

-Despite spending a fraction of what the United States spends on education, Canada is one of the most scholarly nations in the world. More Canadians attend college than in any other country in the world. Israel and Japan were second and third, the U-S, fourth.

-Canada’s official languages may be French and English, but our geese have their own language. Scientists believe that Canada Geese have as many as 13 different calls for everything from greetings and warnings…to happiness! (Try to remember that the next time you’re out on the golf course.)

Until next time,

Bev Shipley, M.P., Lambton-Kent-Middlesex
