Strathroy – It’s a sure sign summer is just around the corner.

Bev Shipley, M.P. for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex announced today that 92 local students will be employed this summer under the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs Program. Shipley noted that 63 employers will share more than $233,000 under the program.

“I am pleased to announce this funding that helps students in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex gain valuable work experience and earn money to put towards their post-secondary education.” Canada Summer Jobs is a Government of Canada initiative that provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It focuses on local priorities, while achieving tangible results for both students and their communities including:

• Providing work experience for students;
• Supporting organizations, including those that provide important community services;
• Recognizing that local circumstances, community needs and priorities vary widely.

Canada Summer Jobs is focused on encouraging not-for-profit organizations, public sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create jobs that not only meet their needs, but also benefit students looking to gain work experience.
