Ottawa
- Bev Shipley, MP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, today announced that funding totalling $6,880.00 will be released to two municipalities in support of their local Canada Day celebrations.
“These celebrations have become a tradition in our communities, providing Canadians the opportunity to share their pride in their country,” said MP Shipley. "We must always remember, however, that the success of these celebrations is due, in great part, to the efforts of the volunteer members of the Celebrate Canada committees all across Canada."
The Canada day celebrations held on July 1st in Forest this year will include a series of activities including a house decorating contest and judging, homemade jam concert, Canada Day Idol judging, garden tours, chicken BBQ and community displays, children's fair, and fireworks. In Wallaceburg the July 1st activities will include a bike rodeo, children's games and activities, arts and crafts, museum displays, historical presentation from Walpole Island First Nation Chief Joseph Day, fireworks, and live music. Both events are anticipated to draw a combined attendance of 9,000 participants.
