Shipley and Government of Canada Committed to Clean Water
October 15, 2007

London, Ontario - Bev Shipley, M.P. for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex joined the Honourable John Baird, Minister of Environment, and the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, for a funding announcement on a clean water initiative called HELP (Huron Elgin London Project).

This project will provide clean, safe and reliable water from the Lake Huron and Elgin water systems, which serve 20 member municipalities in Middlesex, Lambton, Huron and Elgin Counties, as well as in the City of London.

The announcement also provides funding for sufficient back up power generation and green energy, along with a research, training and testing centre. Canada’s New Government will fund up to one-third of the total eligible costs, to a maximum federal contribution of $50 million.

MP Bev Shipley has a deep interest in this project, as he was the Chair of the Lake Huron Joint Board of Management in 2003, when the project came forward. “This is truly a great step forward for a project that serves more than 500,000 people,” says Shipley.
