WALLACEBURG, ONTARIO — Mr. Bev Shipley, Member of Parliament for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, and the Honourable Marjory LeBreton, Leader of the Government in the Senate and Secretary of State (Seniors), today congratulated the Royal Canadian Legion (Wallaceburg) Branch 18, on being selected to receive $25,000 under the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP). The funds will be used towards the Legion’s $100,000 project to install an elevator at the Branch.

“The Government of Canada is proud to support Branch 18 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Wallaceburg as they seek to provide ease of access to their facilities for the people of Wallaceburg and area,” said Mr. Shipley.

In Budget 2007, the Government of Canada announced an additional investment of $10 million per year for two new components of the NHSP, in order to raise awareness of elder abuse, and to provide capital assistance for upgrades to facilities and equipment used for existing seniors’ programs.
