Farmers Driving Out Cancer
July 24, 2010

Last Saturday I had the honour of driving one of 1231 tractors that participated in the Greatest Tractor Parade ― Driving Out Cancer.
In addition to all the participants, sponsors and the thousands of spectators, I want to especially commend Ken Richards of Dresden, who was the driving force behind this very successful event.. An event, which I might add, raised more than $102,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society with more money still coming in.
Despite the cloudy skies, threats of rain and high humidity, the farming community demonstrated once again, that when it comes to supporting important causes, farmers are second to none.
I know of no one who has not been touched by this deadly disease in all its various forms in some way.  But thanks to efforts like this, supported by communities and individual Canadians, advances in cancer research are being made, and new treatments are being developed, which means more and more lives are being saved every day.
So thank you Ken, and thank you to everyone who in any way participated or supported this terrific event.

Yours truly,
Bev Shipley, MP
