From time to time I think we all wonder about the things we could be doing better as a country. This is natural and as many of you share your thoughts with me about those things, I must say Canadians, and in particular the residents of Lambton Kent Middlesex provide me with many good ideas which I really do appreciate.
On July 1, Canada will celebrate its 141st birthday and I think it would serve us all well if we could take some time on that day to reflect on the greatness of our land, the freedoms we enjoy, the richness of our culture and most importantly remember those who fought and sacrificed so all these things could be so..
I believe Canada is the greatest nation on earth because we are a unique people. We think on a different plane than most other countries. We are a generous and compassionate people who have opened our doors to people from around the world and provided them with an opportunity for a better life. In return those who have come to Canada by choice have given back to their adopted country by helping us all to build a better, stronger and united Canada. Where else in the world could that be truer?
Canadians may at times pay a higher price than others for the lifestyle we enjoy. However it is a price we have always been willing to pay. Our values are represented in those things that we hold dear; in the way we treat those less fortunate, in the healthcare provided when we are ailing, in the quality of education preparing our children for an even brighter future, and in the reputation we enjoy around the world as a caring society.
Indeed, Canada is the envy of the world!
We have so much to be thankful for, and truly we are a blessed people.
So in addition to these reflections, let me also encourage us all to participate and celebrate our National Birthday.
May God continue to bless Canada and each of us as we celebrate this year.
