Thanksgiving!
As all of us get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving weekend, I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank-you to all of my constituents in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex for your continuing support. I am truly blessed with a great family, many close friends and a job that I thoroughly enjoy which is due, in part, to the people in my riding whom I have the privilege of representing. I hope each and every one of you has a chance this weekend to truly reflect on what is most important to you, and what you are most thankful for. I wish all of you a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Canada’s Continued Job Growth

Statistics Canada announced this morning that 52,100 net new jobs were created in September. Last month’s strong job growth and the over 820,000 new jobs created since July 2009 (90% of them full-time) are positive signs that we’re on the right track for the Canadian economy and Canadian families. However, as we have noted many times in the past, the global economy remains fragile and Canada is not immune to challenges coming from outside our borders. That’s why our government is working hard to support the economy with positive, pro-growth measures in Economic Action Plan 2012 like the job-creating Hiring Credit for Small Business and the Red Tape Reduction Action Plan, highlighted below.

Red Tape Reduction Plan

One of the most common complaints I hear from small businesses across the riding is that there is too much red tape from government. That is why we have unveiled the Red Tape Reduction Action Plan, an ambitious plan to cut red tape, further freeing up business resources to invest in jobs and growth. The Action Plan introduces six systemic changes that will reduce the administrative burden on business, make it easier to do business with regulators, and improve service and predictability. Local Teacher Wins Prime Minister’s Award

Congratulations to Anne-Marie Pinsonneault from Pain Court who has been awarded the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Anne-Marie teaches computer science, literacy, math and is a learning coach at Ecole Elementaire Catholique Saint-Francis. She received her Certificate of Achievement this week, ahead of World Teachers’ Day, which is today. I want to compliment and thank all of our great educators across Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. Teachers play a tremendous role, not only in the academic achievement of students, but in the attitude and abilities they carry with them beyond the classroom. Thank you for all that you do for your students!

I Walked a Mile in Her Shoes

It was great to take part again this year in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in Strathroy, raising funds for the Women’s Rural Resource Centre. The event has gotten so popular; they actually ran out of shoes this year! Thanks to everyone who took part and made donations. See you again next year.

Until next time.
