Graduation Day

I would like to recognize and congratulate the nearly 1,800 graduating students in Grade 8 and Grade 12 across Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. These young people are on a significant and important journey in their life and their hard work has rewarded them as they graduate. I am pleased to be sending each and every one of them a special keepsake certificate. Congratulations!

Local Cadets Impress

I am always impressed with the dedication, discipline and respect I see in my interactions with cadets. This past weekend was no different, as I was pleased to attend the #3 Striker Squadron’s 8 th annual inspection and awards event at the Gemini Sportsplex in Strathroy. What an extraordinary group of young people. They impressed me so much, they were the focus of a speech I made in the House of Commons Wednesday. You can check it out on my website www.bevshipley.ca

Support for Canadian War Memorials and Cenotaphs

Veterans Affairs Minister Steven Blaney and MP’s across the country were pleased to announce funding last week for 29 projects to build and restore community war memorials and cenotaphs. An important part of Canadian history, these memorials and cenotaphs serve as important reminders of the sacrifices and contributions of our veterans and our men and

women in uniform, still serving this country today. The support provided by our government will ensure that our war memorials continue to be sacred gathering places within our communities.

Lost Your Passport?

If your passport is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged, you will need to fill out a new passport application to replace it. You will also have to fill out what’s called a Declaration concerning a lost, stolen or damaged travel document. This form, which used to be called a Statutory Declaration , has recently changed a bit, making it more convenient. You no longer have to get the form signed by a lawyer or notary public, but you will need to provide a little more information about what happened to the passport. The new Declaration form, along with the application itself, can be found on the Passport Canada website www.passportcanada.gc.ca or you can stop into one of my offices in Strathroy or Wallaceburg to pick one up.

The Nexus Card

Many of you have likely heard about the Nexus card, or may have one yourself. Nexus is designed to speed up the border clearance process for low-risk, pre-approved travellers into Canada and the U.S. You submit an application, go through a registration process and if you satisfy the eligibility criteria, you get your card. The Nexus card can be used for land, air and marine ports of entry. To find out more, head to www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexus/
