Happy Anniversary to...US!

On May 2 nd , we marked the first anniversary of the day Canadians endorsed our Government by giving it a majority mandate. I have been honoured to serve the people of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex over the past 12 months, and for five years prior to that. The job is always challenging, but so rewarding.

Our Government’s top priority remains creating jobs, economic growth and long-term prosperity. We campaigned on a commitment to ease the anxiety of Canadians, not with extravagant promises, but with the proposals and principles contained in our Economic Action Plan. While we reflect on the good work done during the past year, we must remain committed to our mandate, the big vision of Canada, to which we are pledged. No resting on our laurels. It’s back to work to ensure Canada remains the best country in the world in which to live.

Canada-EU Trade Agreement Would Benefit Lambton-Kent-Middlesex

I had the opportunity last week to attend an address by the Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, in which he highlighted the benefits of a proposed trade agreement between Canada and the European Union. The ambitious agreement would be a big win for workers, businesses and families right here in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, especially in key sectors like agriculture and manufacturing. It’s actually the most significant trade initiative since the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). More than 60 percent of Canada’s annual income (GDP) and the jobs of one in five Canadians are generated by trade.

National Student Forum on Parliament Hill

I was very pleased this week to be an invited speaker at the National Student Forum and Prayer Breakfast on Parliament Hill. The theme of the event was “Living Out God’s Grace as Leaders.” It was great to meet so many dedicated and caring young people.

Paul Oleniuk from Watford was one of the participants at the National Student Forum in Ottawa this week.

Penny-Pinching Fundraiser Continues

Don’t forget! We’re still looking for your pennies, whether they’re squirreled away in jars, piggy banks or an old sock. With the end of penny production, we’re hoping to collect 300,000 pennies to donate to the hospital auxiliaries in Strathroy, Wallaceburg and Newbury. Why leave your pennies sitting around collecting dust, when they could be helping people in your community? Please drop your coins off at one of my constituency offices or at one of the many locations helping us out by displaying one of our blue penny buckets.

It was nice to hear from the folks at the North Lambton Community Health Centre, who have also started a penny fundraiser in support of Health Promotion Programs. Good luck!

Until next time.
