"Thank you - Never Enough"
November 11, 2010

This Thursday, November 11th, at the 11th hour, Canadians from coast to coast will pause to remember our brave Canadian heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in armed conflict throughout our history. It is nothing less than our solemn duty as Canadians.

Equally, we remember all those who served; some injured, some physically and some emotionally, but all deeply scarred in some way. Most have overcome more trials in a few days of active duty than most of us will during our entire lifetimes. They faced and fought back tyranny and terrorism in World War I and World War II, in Korea and Afghanistan, in Bosnia and the Suez for the rights and freedoms you and I enjoy today.

Of those who came home, their service has continued beyond their active duty. They came home to raise families and invest their time, talent and treasure to build our communities. In so doing made Canada the greatest country in the world.

No matter where or when brave Canadian men and women have been called on to serve; they have done so with hounour, courage, glory, and distinction.  As proud Canadians, I know each of you join me in expressing our national pride in those who “stand the post” serving to protect our freedom, rights and democracy.

We will be in their debt forever.

All of them represent the story of our nation.

We remember and honour all our heroes because “thank you” will never be enough.

And so this week as we celebrate Veteran’s Week, each of us must make our remembrance more than something we feel. We must make it something we do.

I want to encourage all residents of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, young or old to pay tribute to our veterans by attending a Remembrance Day Service across our region.  I ask you to wear a poppy and tell our veterans we care.

I ask you to proclaim, solemnly and clearly they are very precious to us and their service is our personal and national pride.

It is...the very least we can do.

Lest we forget,
Bev Shipley, MP
